The Story Behind Kitchen Harmony

My Story

I didn't set out to build this. I set out to save my own life and discovered that the kitchen was where everything began.

Where it all began

I thought I knew what healthy eating meant

For years, I thought I knew quite a lot about healthy eating. I cooked, I cared about good food and I was always interested in nutrition. But like so many women, I also spent years going from one diet to another.

I would lose weight, put it back on, and start again. I counted calories, avoided certain foods, followed different rules and tried to be “good”. Then life happened, the rules slipped, and sooner or later I would find myself starting all over again.

Looking back, I knew a lot about nutrition, but I didn't really understand how to make it work naturally in my everyday life. Food had become something to control rather than something to understand.

I think that was the beginning of my curiosity. There had to be a better way than constantly starting again.

The beginning of understanding

That was when my relationship with food started to change. I became less interested in another diet and much more interested in understanding why.

What I didn't understand then was that healthy eating was about much more than choosing the “right” foods or following the latest advice.

I had plenty of information, but I didn't yet understand how everything connected, the quality of the food, how it was grown, how we prepare it, how we digest it, when and how we eat, and how our everyday habits affect the way we feel.

I also began to realise that constantly restricting food and labelling it as “good” or “bad” wasn't teaching me how to nourish myself. I was following rules rather than understanding what my body actually needed.

The turning point

The diagnosis that changed everything

A cancer diagnosis changes the way you look at many things.

For me, it made everything I had been learning about food, health and lifestyle suddenly very personal. It was no longer simply something I was interested in or wanted to understand better. I wanted to understand what I could do, every day, to support my body and my health.

My questions changed. It was no longer about “How do I look?” but

“How do I want to live?”

I started looking much more deeply at the whole picture — not only what I ate, but the quality of my food, how I cooked it, my environment, sleep, stress, movement, time in nature and the choices I was making every day.

I realised that health isn't something we can separate into little boxes. Food matters, but it doesn't exist on its own, how we live matters too.

This was no longer about my weight, this was about how I wanted to live my life

The return

The kitchen became much more than a place to cook

The changes didn't happen overnight. The more I learned, the more questions I started asking.

I began looking beyond the food on my plate. What was I cooking it in? How was I storing it? What cleaning products was I using around my food? What about the water I was drinking and cooking with?

I had spent so much time thinking about what to eat that I had rarely thought about everything surrounding it.

My relationship with ingredients changed too. I became much more interested in where my food came from, how it was grown and what was naturally in season. I started buying more from local growers and markets, growing some of my own food and paying attention to ingredients in a completely different way.

The kitchen became a place of learning.

I started understanding that knowing how to cook isn't just about being able to follow a recipe. It's understanding your ingredients, knowing how to combine them, how different cooking methods affect them, and being able to look at what you have and make something nourishing from it.

Perhaps, most importantly, I stopped looking for another set of rules to follow.

I wanted knowledge that I could actually use in everyday life.

That is what I want Kitchen Harmony to give other people too.

Not another diet. Not another list of rules about what you should and shouldn't eat.

I want people to understand food, learn how to cook with confidence and have the knowledge to make their own choices that work for their body, their life and their circumstances.

Because once you understand the why, you don't have to depend on someone else constantly telling you what to do.

The foundation

Knowledge, experience and a lot of curiosity

Kitchen Harmony has grown from my own experience, but also from years of cooking, studying, experimenting and continuing to learn.

I don't believe learning ever really finishes. The more I understand about food and the body, the more questions I seem to have. I actually think that's a good thing.

🎓College of Naturopathic Medicine

I trained at the College of Naturopathic Medicine in London, graduating as a Natural Chef. My studies brought together practical cooking with nutrition, digestion, food quality and the relationship between what we eat and our health.

Cooking in the real world

Training is one thing. Cooking every day is another.

Years of cooking, developing recipes, working in professional kitchens and cooking for other people have taught me how to take nutritional knowledge and make it work on an actual plate.

Because healthy food still has to be enjoyable, practical and something you genuinely want to eat.

Always learning

My education didn't finish when I graduated. I continue to read, study, experiment and learn, about ingredients, traditional food practices, fermentation, growing food, seasonality, the gut, longevity and the many ways our lifestyle can influence our health.

I don't expect that curiosity to stop.

Kitchen Harmony

Kitchen Harmony brings all of that together.

It's where I share what I've learned, what I'm still learning, and most importantly, how we can turn knowledge into something practical in our own kitchens and everyday lives.

What I believe

I believe the kitchen is the most honest room in the house.

It is where so many of our everyday choices begin...

I believe nourishment is much more than following a diet.

Food matters, but so does how we eat, how we live and how we feel...

I believe the way we live today can influence how we age.

We cannot control everything, but there is a lot we can influence...

I believe knowledge gives us choices.

When we understand the why, we can stop blindly following rules...

This is what Kitchen Harmony was built for.

A place to learn, cook, question, share and find what works for you.
